Never miss a spot
It’s said that the heart of your home is the kitchen where we gather to enjoy meals and entertain guests.
But as the main food preparation area, with multiple surfaces and appliances, it is also a space where grime, dust and germs can easily gather.
Maintaining a sparkling and hygienic kitchen requires regular work; let’s be honest, it’s probably where we all focus the most of our cleaning time.
But there’s no need for this to become overwhelming!
In our previous blog detailing the easy cleaning resolutions you can stick to, we outlined how splitting your kitchen cleaning checklist into daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal tasks can help you stay on top of everything to guarantee a spotless and relaxing home.
Here’s our complete cleaning checklist for your kitchen to ensure you never miss a spot!
Daily tasks
- Load the dishwasher or wash the dishes
No one wants to wake up to dirty plates in the morning!
- Clean the sink
A wipe with some hot water and dish soap serves as a quick fix.
- Wipe and sanitise surfaces
Ready for preparing your next meal.
- Wipe stove tops
Don’t forget the burners!
- Declutter
Tidying up stray items ensures an inviting space come breakfast time the next day. Hang those keys, sort the post and put away handbags.
Weekly tasks
- Deep clean the sink
Bring back the shine of your sink by sprinkling with baking soda, scrubbing and then rinsing with warm water.
- Clean the outside of appliances
A simple wipe with white vinegar will cut through any grease.
- Clean the inside of the microwave
Microwaving a cup of white vinegar (again!) will produce steam that loosens caked on food.
- Sweep and mop the floor
For most floors, all you need is a mixture of warm water and mild detergent to get your kitchen floor sparkling clean. But for ceramic floor tiles don’t forget to dry the floor thoroughly after mopping to avoid water marks.
- Wipe down cabinet doors
Be sure to tackle those smudges and drips before they become ingrained.
- De-crumb the toaster
A toaster overloaded with crumbs can be a fire risk, so empty the crumb tray frequently. You can even feed the discarded crumbs to the birds in your garden rather than emptying into the bin or sink.
- Throw out out-of-date food
Avoid rotting food in the fruit bowl and fridge freezer.
Monthly tasks
- Dust lights
You’ll be surprised how much dust they gather!
- Clean the dishwasher
Steam clean your dishwasher by running a hot cycle with a bowl of white vinegar inside. This will also help to neutralise bad smells.
- Clean the dish drying rack
Pop it in that clean dishwasher!
- Clean any tiling
Baking soda mixed with water is great for scrubbing the stains out of grout.
- Descale the kettle
Fill and boil the kettle with our good friend white vinegar, followed by water, to clear out any limescale. Then allow to air dry with the lid off.
- Clean the bins
Rinse out your bins with dish soap and warm water to avoid a build up of anything sticky and smelly.
- Check use by dates
Kitchen cupboards are notoriously full of tins of out-of-date food so declutter your cabinets of unusable items. Regularly checking the contents of your cupboards also prevents you from buying duplicates and save you money!
SEASONAL
- Clean the oven
Check out our ultimate guide to deep cleaning your oven here.
- Deep clean the fridge freezer and wipe down shelves
If you don’t have a built-in fridge freezer, make sure to vacuum underneath. There are always crumbs!
- Wipe down the inside of cabinets and drawers
A whole host of objects and paperwork can end up stuffed inside kitchen drawers – you’ll be surprised by what you’ll find. And don’t forget to rinse the drawer dividers.
- Wipe down walls, skirting boards, switches and door handles
- Wash any rugs and soft furnishings
Rugs and soft furnishings are perfect for making a cosy corner or breakfast area in your kitchen but also need regular cleaning so the new season is the perfect time for a spruce up.
- Clean windows
Combine a mixture of water and white vinegar with a few drops of essential oil in a spray bottle to leave windows dazzlingly clean.
